SUSPLAN conducted 9 individual regional RES integration scenario studies in different geographical regions across Europe. Each study focused on the regional characteristics and challenges. 

Therefore Regional Kick-Off Workshop gave an introduction to the SUSPLAN project. Furthermore, the views on future grids, scenarios, strategies and politics up to 2050 were communicated by regional stakeholders. Finally, a detailed description of the project partners involvement in the case studies was explained.

Topics addressed during the workshop included:

• What are the attributes, strengths and weaknesses of the energy system in the region?
• What role do Renewable Energy Sources (RES) play in the region?
• In respect to the questions above, what contribution could be expected from the region in terms of European deployment of RES?
• Up to which capacity could future energy infrastructures support an enforced deployment of RES?
• What infrastructure bottlenecks exist and must be overcome to integrate RES into the energy system more efficiently?

Key regional stakeholders from the energy sector addressed these topics within the European context, focusing on medium- (2030) and long-term (2050) perspectives.

The project partners contribution to this discussion were greatly valued and appreciated for further development of the case-studies regarding RES-infrastructures integration in the region.
