SINTEF Energy Research is located in Trondheim, Norway, and is presently divided into three departments covering the following areas: Electric Power Technology, Energy Processes and Energy Systems.
SINTEF Energy Research is part of the SINTEF group, one of the largest independent research organisations in Northern Europe, and has a close co-operation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.
SINTEF Energy Research has approximately 190 employees and is a centre for international expertise in power production, transmission, distribution and the use of energy, including industrial processes and products. The annual turnover was in year 2006 approximately 26.3 million Euros.
SINTEF Energy Research has been working for many years on a wide range of issues related to energy infrastructures such as electricity grids, gas networks, biomass chains, district heating networks and hydrogen chains. The company has been involved in several projects regarding production from renewables, e.g. bio energy, wind, wave and small hydro power.
SINTEF Energy Research has a comprehensive experience in international activities, among others in EU-projects both as partner as well as coordinator.
