dena is the competence centre for energy efficiency and renewable energies. Its manifold objectives include the rational and thus environmentally friendly production, conversion and use of energy, and the development of sustainable energy systems with a greater emphasis on renewable energy sources. To this end dena initiates, coordinates and implements innovative projects and campaigns at national and international level. It provides information to consumers, works together with different political and economical pressure groups and develops strategies for the future supply of energy. Its shareholders are the Federal Republic of Germany, the KfW Bankengruppe (KfW Banking Group), Allianz SE, Deutsche Bank AG and DZ BANK AG. dena started operations in January 2001 and has about 150 employees.
Some current projects and campaigns: The EnergieEffizienz Initiative (energy efficiency initiative), which targets the individual consumer and housing specialists in the home, in trade and industry and in the services sector; development and introduction of a standardized Energy Performance Certificate for buildings; Green building – the energy-efficient refurbishment of non-residential buildings throughout Europe; coordination of the Renewable Energies Export Initiative; Joint Implementation/ Clean Development Mechanism Projects in Russia, Romania, Ukraine and China; Development and implementation of a strategy of the federal government for an offshore wind power industry.
