Verbund-Austrian Hydro Power

VERBUND Externer Link is Austria's leading electricity company and one of the largest producers of electricity from hydropower in Europe. Almost all of the electricity demand coming from the entirety of Austrian private households is covered by VERBUND's Danube power plants alone. VERBUND AG, headquartered in Vienna, was founded in 1947 and is active in the areas of electricity generation, trade, transmission and sales. VERBUND is strategically managed by a holding, namely VERBUND AG. The holding is also responsible for higher-level administration and service tasks. Operating activities are concentrated in subsidiaries with different focuses and tasks.

Due to the regulation of electricity markets the significance of VERBUND storage power plants has been enhanced. Therefore recent projects have great significance for the Austrian electricity generation. Research activities at VERBUND focus on technical and economic development in the generation area and include measures that are designed to enhance efficiency, maintain grid stability and improve the operation and maintenance of the plants. For many decades VERBUND has invested in research and development. Every year several major research projects are started and completed.
